Rochester, New York, United States
Tanya Garg, M.S., is a PhD student in Clinical Psychology at the University of Rochester, where she conducts research on trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). She is trained in psychological science with a strong interest in understanding how traumatic experiences shape behavior, physiology, and brain function across adulthood. Tanya completed her undergraduate education in Psychology at University College London (UCL). Building on this foundation, she also earned a master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Sciences at UCL, deepening her expertise in clinical research methods and the translation of evidence into real-world practice. As part of her master’s program, Tanya also worked as an honorary clinical support worker at the Camden and Islington NHS Foundation Trust, where she primarily conducted physical health screenings for patients with severe mental illnesses.
At the University of Rochester, Tanya’s work focuses on identifying behavioral, physiological, and neural markers associated with trauma exposure and PTSD in adults. Her research integrates multiple levels of analysis - linking observable behavior with biological signals and neural processes - to better characterize individual differences in trauma-related outcomes. By examining these markers together, she aims to contribute to a more precise understanding of PTSD risk and maintenance factors, with the long-term goal of informing earlier identification and more targeted intervention approaches. Tanya’s background in both academic and clinically oriented training supports her commitment to research that is methodologically rigorous, clinically meaningful, and responsive to the needs of trauma-exposed individuals. She is especially interested in interdisciplinary collaboration and in communicating scientific findings to diverse audiences, including clinicians, researchers, and community stakeholders.
