Kim Guarascio, PhD, is a licensed psychologist who earned her doctorate in Counseling Psychology from the University of Akron in 2001. She has over twenty years of clinical experience specializing in the treatment of trauma, eating disorders, and complex comorbid presentations. Dr. Guarascio is the founder and director of Guarascio Psychological Services, a private practice in New York, where she provides individual therapy, clinical consultation, and professional training.
Over the course of her career, Dr. Guarascio has worked in a range of clinical settings, including community mental health centers, university counseling centers, and private practice, with a consistent focus on helping individuals recover from the impact of complex trauma. She is intensively trained in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and integrates mindfulness, somatic awareness, and interpersonal effectiveness skills into her therapeutic approach.
Dr. Guarascio is the author of Recovering from Eating Disorders: A DBT and Creative Healing Workbook (Johns Hopkins University Press, in press), which offers a trauma-informed framework for addressing the intersection of relational trauma, body image, and eating disorders. She is also preparing a second book, The Other Side of the Table: A Compassionate Guide for Loved Ones Supporting Someone with an Eating Disorder (under contract with Johns Hopkins University Press). In addition to these books, she has developed clinical resources and written articles focused on trauma recovery, shame reduction, and body image.
She has presented nationally on trauma, eating disorders, and DBT-informed interventions, including at the Southwest School of Behaviorism Annual Conference in Arizona. Her work emphasizes bridging research and practice to create accessible interventions that foster resilience, relational healing, and sustainable recovery.
