psychotherapist
Stephen R. Beck PC
Portland, Oregon, United States
Stephen began working in community mental health in 1976. He went into private practice in 1989.
His first love was family therapy and its ability to move through experience in the present moment
influenced by the collective whole of shared experience, which evolved into him being heavily influenced
by the approaches of Carl Whitaker, Milton Erickson, Carl Jung, and all of the remarkble innovation
coming out of the Esalen Institute..
From 1983 to 2002 he was mentored in Ericksonian/ Self Relations collective generative
field approaches by Stephen Gilligan - which became the foundation of his working approach
and informed the path of what worked effectively and what promoted a compassionate curious connection
in the therapy realtionship.to self, other, and the expanding experience of consciousness.
Stephen was introduced to EMDR in 1995 and was amazed both by its effectiveness and how it was so efforless
to "be with" the client, guided by fidelity to the protocol, and how often all that was needed for client healing would
generate out of the experience of the shared field of experience. This shift in awareness from a "doing consciousness"
to a complementary ":being-doing consciousness" began a questioning of both how he was approaching therapy and the
collective nature of the prcess between therapist and client..
In 2000 he began straining in energy psychology, first in Dynamic Energetic Healing with Howard Brockman,
then Donna Eden and David Feinstein, eventually in HBLu with Judith Swack. In 2004 for he redefined his practice
as an energy psych practice and in 2005 began studying shamanism, established a daily ancestral practice, amd
conducts his sessions from a Spirit/sacred presence position.
Stephen is a certified EMDR practitioner, consultant, facilitator for HAP and the EMDR Institute, and an RTEP GTEP Trainer.
