S. Victoria Jaque, PhD, received her PhD in 1994 from the University of Southern California, in Exercise Science, with a major emphasis in Exercise Physiology, and secondary interests in gerontology and muscle plasticity. She is a Professor at California State University, Northridge where she is the Director of two graduate programs. She is the graduate coordinator in the Department of Kinesiology (MSc Kinesiology) and graduate coordinator of the MSc in Assistive Technology (College of Health and Human Development). She is Co-Director of the Performance Psychophysiology Laboratory and conducts research addressing the intersection between psychopathology and the optimal activation of the autonomic nervous system during performance. She actively investigates the effects of psychological stress and resilience factors in performing artists and athletes. She is the co-author of two books with Dr. Thomson, Creativity and the Performing Artist: Behind the Mask and Creativity, Trauma, and Resilience and co-author of multiple peer-reviewed articles. She is an active co-presenter at international and national scientific conferences. Dr. Jaque also studies the influence of physical activity on maturing bone. Her research in this area addresses the influence of dance on bone mineral density in collegiate dancers as well as childhood and adolescent effects of physical activity on adult bone density. She also collaborates on work examining the efficacy of resistance training protocols for the optimization of bone adaptation during maturation.
