Dorinna Ruh, LCSW, began her work in the mental health field in 1989, focusing on substance abuse counseling. She graduated with her MSW in 1995 from the State University of New York at Albany and brings over three decades of clinical experience to her current roles as therapist, trainer, and consultant.
Since relocating to Colorado in 1999, Dorinna has maintained a private practice specializing in the treatment of complex trauma and dissociation. She was trained in EMDR therapy in 2001 and this modality has remained her primary clinical lens. She is an EMDRIA Certified Therapist and Approved Consultant and she has provided advanced EMDR-based consultation and training to clinicians across the world.
Dorinna is the founder of Advanced EMDR Education, which offers high-integrity training for mental health professionals working with complex and dissociative clients. Her teaching style is widely regarded as grounded, accessible, and deeply informed by clinical experience and advanced study. Her work is influenced by key principles of the Adaptive Information Processing (AIP) model and shaped by ongoing consultation with leaders in the fields of EMDR and dissociation. Dorinna is especially interested in providing EMDR consultation to folks who work in community mental health.
In addition to her clinical and teaching roles, Dorinna volunteers with the Humanitarian Assistance Programs (HAP)/Trauma Recovery, contributing as a EMDR Training Facilitator for the past 9 years. She has completed her Weekend One Trainer training for HAP and will be stepping into this new role in 2026.
Finally, Dorinna was awarded the Social Influencer Award by EMDRIA in 2025 for her contributions to EMDR education in social media.
