Dr. Marta J.L. Miranda is a licensed and board certified clinical psychologist in private practice in Washington, DC. Prior to pursuing graduate studies in psychology, she worked for several international non-profit organizations, specializing in environmental conservation and human rights policy. Dr. Miranda received her PsyD in clinical psychology in 2014 from the George Washington University. She has been in independent practice of clinical and forensic psychology in Seattle, WA, and Washington DC, with a focus on working with international clients and immigrants, and persons with complex trauma and dissociation, offering services in English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Her forensic work has been in the areas of criminal defense (mental state at the time of the offense and competency to stand trial), employment discimination, sexual harassment and abuse, and other forms of betrayal and institutional betrayal trauma. Dr. Miranda has been active in the profession, serving on the Executive Board of APA's Division 56 (Trauma Psychology), and on the Washington State Psychological Association, for which she represented the organization on APA's Council of Representatives, the APA's governing body. She also served as the Early Career Psychologist on the APA Council of Representatives' Leadership Team. She has published on topics related to trauma, forensic psychology, and culturally responsive practice. Dr. Miranda taught a trauma-focused assessment lab at the Fremont Community Therapy Project in Seattle, where she completed both her pre-doctoral internship and post-doc, and has also taught and supervised graduate students at Antioch University Seattle and at the George Washington University Professional Psychology Program.
