Rhen M. Miles, LCSW, PhD (she/her), is a licensed clinical social worker, educator, and researcher specializing in complex trauma, attachment, and dissociation. With over 15 years of experience in trauma-informed and anti-oppressive practice, she draws on lived experience, community-based work, and research to advance socially just, trauma-responsive care.
In clinical practice, Rhen works with young adults and women navigating systemic oppression and relational trauma. Her therapeutic approach integrates somatic therapy, parts work, attachment- and emotion-focused interventions, including polyvagal-informed strategies and the Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP). She is committed to creating therapeutic spaces that foster safety, connection, self-compassion, and agency—particularly for individuals with histories of complex and dissociative trauma. She centers the lived experience of clients and examines power dynamics within organizations, using her clinical, research, and teaching roles to support practices that amplify marginalized voices and promote equitable care.
Rhen earned a PhD in Social Work and Social Research from Portland State University, where her dissertation examined youth experiences of participation, inclusion, and influence in participatory organizations. Her research and evaluation work has focused on equity-driven initiatives across education, youth development, and community-based organizations. She has published in the Journal of Social Work Education and the Journal of Ethnic & Cultural Diversity in Social Work and presented nationally on trauma, equity, and participatory practices.
As an educator, Rhen has taught widely across BSW and MSW programs, emphasizing research methods, human development, and anti-oppressive frameworks. A member of ISSTD, she holds a Certificate in Complex Trauma and Dissociation and advanced training in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy.
Rhen is dedicated to facilitating and curating spaces among professionals that promote shared power, knowledge sharing, and collaboration—qualities essential for fostering responsive, equitable, and socially just organizational and relational practices.
