Jan Gysi, MD, is a psychiatrist and psychotraumatologist in Bern, Switzerland, where he maintains a consulting and clinical practice at the interdisciplinary center for psychological health Sollievo.net. He is widely recognized in German-speaking countries for his clinical, academic, and consultative work in the trauma field, with over 25 years of experience across clinical, forensic, and educational settings.

Dr. Gysi received his medical degree from the University of Bern and completed board certification in psychiatry and psychotherapy through the Swiss national medical board. He is trained in psychotraumatology and EMDR and focuses clinically and scientifically on the diagnosis and treatment of posttraumatic stress and dissociative disorders. His work emphasizes evidence-based diagnostic rigor, trauma-coerced attachment dynamics, and the practical integration of international classification systems into everyday clinical decision-making.

In 2025, he authored Diagnosing the Psychological Consequences of Trauma: A Multiaxial Trauma-Dissociation Model According to ICD-11 (Hogrefe). The book provides a structured, clinician-oriented guide aligned with ICD-11, organized around a five-axis trauma–dissociation model. It supports assessment, differential diagnosis, and treatment planning through navigation charts, axis-by-axis guidance, decision pathways, clinical recommendations, and targeted questionnaires, with a dedicated focus on comorbidity and forensic-relevant diagnostic considerations.

Dr. Gysi is President-Elect of the European Society for Trauma and Dissociation (ESTD) and an active member of the German-speaking Association for Psychotraumatology (DeGPT). He co-edited an interdisciplinary book on Trauma and Justice (2017, German) and authored a German-language diagnostic text on trauma-related presentations (3rd edition, 2024). He regularly teaches, supervises, and consults across Europe and currently leads an international project to develop an ICD-11-aligned screening instrument for dissociative disorders, alongside further research initiatives.
