Lakshmi Nair Kanangottu is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist from India with advanced training in marriage, couple, and family counseling. She recently completed her Master’s degree in Marriage, Couple, and Family Counseling at Kutztown University of Pennsylvania, where she further developed her clinical expertise and deepened her understanding of relational and culturally informed psychotherapy.
Lakshmi has extensive experience working with individuals, couples, and families across diverse cultural contexts. Her clinical training includes Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) and psychoanalytic psychotherapy, which inform her integrative and insight-oriented approach to mental health care. She has worked with a wide range of concerns, including trauma, marital and relational conflicts, infertility-related psychological challenges, and complex family dynamics. Her work emphasizes understanding the emotional and relational patterns that shape individual experiences.
Her research and professional interests are centered on cultural diversity, refugee mental health, and child and adolescent trauma. Lakshmi is particularly committed to providing culturally responsive care and has worked with underserved and marginalized populations, including communities where mental health stigma remains a significant barrier to seeking support. She is passionate about bridging cultural understanding with clinical practice to improve accessibility and effectiveness of mental health services.
In addition to her clinical work, Lakshmi has actively contributed to academic research and has presented at national and international conferences. She is also interested in dream interpretation and narrative approaches in therapy, integrating these perspectives into her clinical and academic work.
Lakshmi plans to pursue a PsyD in Clinical Psychology in the United States, with the goal of continuing her work in trauma-informed, culturally attuned, and equitable mental health care.
