Bethany Brand, Ph.D. is Professor Emerit of Psychology at Towson University in Baltimore, Maryland, with over 30 years of experience in the assessment and treatment of trauma-related and dissociative disorders, including training at Johns Hopkins Hospital, George Washington University Hospital, and Sheppard Pratt Health System's Trauma Disorders Program.

Dr. Brand is the Principal Investigator for the Treatment of Patients with Dissociative Disorders (TOP DD) studies, including the first randomized controlled trial demonstrating substantial improvements for individuals with dissociative disorders and complex PTSD. She co-developed the Finding Solid Ground (FSG) program with Dr. Ruth Lanius and Hygge Schielke—the first evidence-based program for dissociative and complex trauma clients—published by Oxford University Press as Finding Solid Ground: Overcoming Obstacles in Trauma Treatment and The Finding Solid Ground Program Workbook. She also authored The Concise Guide to the Assessment and Treatment of Trauma-Related Dissociation (American Psychological Association) and has published over 140 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters.

Dr. Brand has received Lifetime Achievement Awards from both the American Psychological Association (APA) Trauma Psychology Division and the International Society for the Study of Trauma and Dissociation (ISSTD), the Outstanding Contribution to the Science of Trauma Psychology from the APA, and the endowed Martha E. Mitten Professorship. She has received several additional ISSTD awards, including the Cornelia B. Wilbur, Pierre Janet, Morton Prince, and Presidential Awards, and is a Fellow of the APA and the APA Trauma Division.

Dr. Brand has served on national and international task forces developing trauma treatment guidelines and delivered hundreds of presentations internationally. She is sought after for media interviews including on NPR's Science Friday, and serves as a forensic expert in civil and criminal cases including federal, capital, and international Supreme Court cases.
